In honor of the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Summer Olympics’ first week, we’re doing a throwback to all the previous “modern” Olympic venues! Thanks to an Esri story map, we’re able to see where Olympics have been held in the last 120 years while also learning more about the nuances of the Games.
Esri’s easy-to-use story map allows you to click in sequential order or simply click on the map points to learn more about the Olympic games. With red points indicating Summer Olympics and blue dots indicating Winter Olympics, it’s easy to navigate through the map’s features.
When clicking through the map’s points, you can find a bunch of fun facts associated with each Olympic games. For instance, the 1904 Summer Olympics, held in St. Louis, featured a tug-of-war competition!
