With the beautiful weather we’re having, more and more people are getting out of their homes to go explore their cities, parks, restaurants, and more. With that comes a heavier volume of traffic, making these commutes a frustrating and time-consuming experience. Using Esri’s mapping solutions along with a partnering tech firm, Santa Clara County in California was able to curb their traffic congestion and provide more streamlined transportation solutions for its residents.
The heart of this solution lies in having up-to-date, reliable maps. With 168 bridges, 39 miles of car pool lanes, 164 signalized intersections, 4,500 street lights, 25,000 regulatory signs, and 2,185 culverts, making sure each map layer was correct and malleable served as the foundation for the success of the project.
With the mapping portion taken care of, Esri’s partner, MetroTech, provided an accurate, real-time, budget-friendly solution for the County; it used video feeds to produce metrics, including vehicle counts and speeds, that were used for short and long-term analysis. With this data, the County is able to make adjustments to the traffic flows as the need arises, all in real time.
Equipped with this better data and traffic management solution, Santa Clara County enjoys improved safety, increased speed and efficiencies, and a knowledge that they are being environmentally conscientious.
