The drawing tools are very useful when you need to make a custom markup on your GIS map. This feature allows you to draw shapes, add text, and even create your own free hand drawing specific to your needs.
You can access the drawing tools under the Markup tab on your toolbar. By clicking the drop down arrow, you can see all the different types of drawing tools available.
Let us say, for example, you need to outline an area that needs to be reviewed. This area, however, is an odd shape that does not fit into the categories of a square, circle, polygon, etc. For this you can use the freehand shape option.
Once selected, you can click on the styles button to specify the style for your shape.
You can then begin drawing your shape by simply right clicking while tracing the desired area. When finished, you may let go and your shape should display in the style you selected previously.
In case you wanted to finalize your drawing by adding text, the drawing tools also allow you to do this. Simply click on the drop down arrow and select Text. You can once again specify the style of your choice.
Once selected, click on the location where you would like to place the text. You will be prompted to type the text, and then you’re all done!
Now that your markups are finalized, you can save them as a project and share them by using the Project features mentioned in our previous #TipTuesday posts.
